ST. LOUIS - Saint Louis rallied for a 64-54 victory against Fordham Tuesday in Atlantic 10 Conference women's basketball action at Chaifetz Arena.
It was the first A-10 win of the season for the Billikens, who improve to 7-13 overall and 1-4 in league play. Fordham dips to 10-11 and 2-3 in the A-10.
Saint Louis returns to action Sunday, Jan. 30, when it hosts A-10 foe Charlotte at Chaifetz Arena. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
Ayriell Robinson scored 11 points, Janisha Gearlds added nine and Mallory Eggert chipped in eight points for the Billikens.
The Billikens turned in a strong effort defensively, holding the Rams to just 28.6 percent shooting (8-of-28) in the second half. Fordham did not record a field goal the last nine minutes of the contest.
SLU led by two at halftime, but Fordham stormed out of the gate quickly in the second half and took a seven-point lead at 42-35 with 12:33 remaining in the contest. A Bradley layup kept the Billikens within six of the lead before SLU went on a 5-0 spurt, capped by a Bradley trey that brought SLU to within one of the lead at 43-42 with 10 minutes to play.
Fordham regained control with a trey by Kristina Bell, and led by five with six minutes left after a pair of free throws by Tiffany Stokes before the Billikens came roaring back.
Gearalds connected on a jumper to pull the Bills within three. SLU received a major boost on a steal and ensuing fast-break layup by Jenna Mueller to draw the Billikens within one of the lead at 50-49 with less than five minutes left.
Two free throws from Bradley tied the score, and a Jones running layup with 3:29 remaining gave the Billikens a 53-51 advantage, a lead they would not relinquish. When Fordham pulled to 53-52, the Billikens scored seven straight points to seal the win. Eggert converted a layup inside, and Bradley hit a runner in the lane. She scored again on a jumper, and Geralds hit one free throw for a 60-52 lead.
Saint Louis was down eight early in the contest but took a one-point lead when Robinson's trey gave the Bills a 15-14 lead with 10:43 remaining in the first half. SLU maintained a five-point lead on another Robinson basket and a Mallory Eggert bucket with 3:34 left. SLU led 27-25 at halftime.
