Box Score ST. LOUIS - Alyssa Deno registered a match-high 11 kills, and Saint Louis
held La Salle to a .040 attack percentage in a 25-11, 25-18, 25-16 Atlantic 10
Conference victory for the Billikens Sunday afternoon at Chaifetz Pavilion.
Deno hit .345
(11-1-29) on the afternoon and added seven digs, two service aces and a solo
block. Emma Goldschmidt had eight kills and turned in a .636 attack
percentage (8-1-11), the best by a Billiken this season, to lead Saint Louis (10-8,
6-2 A-10) to a .330 team hitting mark. The Bills committed just 10 errors on 94
swings.
Carly Marcum collected nine kills
(9-3-17, .353) and four blocks, Andrea Beaty had nine kills and a
match-high five blocks, and Cassie Clarke posted 33 assists and seven
digs. The Billikens also received strong defensive efforts from Grace Bonoma
(10 digs), Ashley Gaillot (10 digs) and Carly Schumacher (four
blocks). SLU outblocked La Salle (5-19, 1-6 A-10) 9-3.
The Explorers
got eight kills from Jacquelyn Mitrovich and a match-high 15 digs from Breanna
Mazalewski.
A 6-0 spurt gave
Saint Louis a 9-2 cushion in set one. La Salle drew to within five points twice,
the second occasion a 13-8 Billiken lead. SLU finished the set with a flurry
from there, scoring 12 of the last 15 points. Deno led the way with five kills,
and Beaty added four.
La Salle was
much more stubborn in set two, and Saint Louis led just 8-7 early. Four
consecutive points provided some breathing room, however, and the Billikens
gradually pulled away. Goldschmidt tallied five of her eight kills in the set,
while Beaty and Marcum recorded three blocks apiece.
In the final
set, SLU sprinted to a 9-3 advantage and maintained the lead between five and
nine points the rest of the way. Marcum had five kills on five attempts.
The Billikens play just one match next week, traveling to Pittsburgh to
face Duquesne Friday, Oct. 21. Match time is 6 p.m. (CT).
