Box Score CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Saint Louis captured a 25-22, 28-26,
25-23 decision over Charlotte Sunday afternoon in an Atlantic 10 Conference
volleyball match.
Alyssa Deno led the way with
a double-double, collecting 14 kills and 11 digs. Andrea Beaty tied for match-high honors with 16 kills while hitting
.300 (16-4-40), and Cassie Clarke
tied the match high with 13 digs while adding 27 assists and three blocks.
Carly Marcum and Carly Schumacher had five and four
blocks, respectively. Lauren Baumet tallied five kills on 13 attempts with no errors (.385) and registered four
blocks, while Grace Bonoma recorded
10 digs for the Billikens (13-10, 9-4 A-10).
Saint Louis trailed by seven points on four occasions in set one, the
final time a 17-10 deficit, but rattled off five consecutive points to get to
within two. Later, trailing 22-20, the Billikens closed the set with another
5-0 spurt that included three blocks by the tandem of Clarke and Marcum.
Charlotte (11-14, 5-8 A-10) overcame a 19-14 deficit to tie set two at
19, and six deadlocks followed. Kills by Deno and Beaty saved set points, and
the Billikens scored the final three points to win the set and take a 2-0 lead
in the match.
The Bills used a 7-0 spurt to take a 15-9 lead in set three, only to
see the 49ers claw back to forge an 18-all tie. Four more ties ensued, but
after Charlotte scored to pull even at 23, kills by Baumet and Beaty clinched
the match for Saint Louis.
Saint Louis hosts Xavier Friday, Nov. 11, in
Chaifetz Arena. Match time is 5 p.m.
