St. Louis - Saint Louis junior midfielder Ryan Wileman scored twice as the 25th-ranked Billikens stormed past Louisville 3-0 tonight in a Conference USA men's soccer match at Cardinal Stadium. Senior keeper Martin Hutton made three saves to post his 14th career shutout.
The Billikens jumped on top of the Cardinals with three goals in the first 16 minutes. Wileman scored his first in the fourth minute on a header off Tim Ward's serve. Sophomore midfielder Will John. Wileman finished the flurry in the 16th minute by connecting during a goalmouth scramble after Alex Matteson's shot wasn't cleared.
"We took advantage of our early opportunities, played well throughout the match and dictated the temp throughout," said Billikens head coach Dan Donigan. "We played arguably our best 90 minutes of the year, because we never really let Louisville have a chance to get back into the game. This is the way we need to keep playing down the stretch."
Louisville (4-5-4, 1-2-1) has won only twice in its last 11 outings, but had an 11-10 edge in shots and a 5-3 advantage on corner kicks.
Saint Louis (7-4-1, 4-1-1) stretched its season-best winning streak to three and hosts Cincinnati on Wed., Oct. 20, for a 7 p.m. kick-off at Hermann Stadium
