Geraghty's Hat Trick Pumps Bills Past SJU, 8-0

St. Louis - Saint Louis romped past Saint Joseph's 8-0 in Atlantic 10 Conference men's soccer this afternoon at Robert R. Hermann Stadium. Freshman forward Larry Geraghty netted a hat trick, including the game winner, and junior midfielder John DiRaimondo enjoyed a seven-point game as the Bills won their third straight match.

"I wanted us not to play the score, so our intensity level didn't drop as people came into the game," Billikens head coach Dan Donigan said. "We did a good job of setting the pace of this game early and maintained control throughout the match."

Geraghty potted his first goal in the ninth minute with an eight-yard header to the left post off freshman midfielder Kyle Patterson's cross. The New Jersey native found the back of the net again almost 10 minutes later when he connected on a 12-yard header off DiRaimondo's corner kick.

DiRaimondo figured in the next two SLU tallies as he initiated the play that resulted in Alex Matteson's 20-yard blast in the 23rd minute. Dado Hamzagic also picked up an assist on the play. DiRaimondo then drilled a 20-yard deadball after an SJU foul in the 26th minute.

SLU senior midfielder Andrew Moses closed the first half scoring with his first career goal in the 31st minute. Moses sent a four-yard header home off Danny Wynn's cross.

Geraghty completed his hat trick in the 48th minute with a toe poke past Hawks keeper Rob Lavorerio. DiRaimondo and Hamzagic again combined to set up the freshman. After the Hawks subbed Trevor Lyman for Lavorerio, DiRaimondo chipped the 6-foot-6 keeper from 30 yard in the 66th minute. SLU defender Mo Benne picked up his second career point with the assist.

Bills sophomore midfielder Andrew Reeder netted his first career goal in the 78th minute on a rebound of Eddie Parker's shot. Parker's shot drive went off the right goal post, and Reeder tucked the rebound home.

Saint Louis out-shot Saint Joseph's (1-7-1 overall, 0-2-0 A-10) 26-3 and had an 8-2 edge in corner kicks. Lavererio made three saves before yielding to Lyman, who make five stops, and the Hawks' defense cleared one ball of its line. The Bills' Jeff Sackman played the first half in goal, and Pat Disbennett came on for the second half with each making a save.

Saint Louis (5-4-1, 2-0-0) continues as its six-game homestand at Hermann Stadium by entertaining Rhode Island on Fri., Oct 14, for a 7 p.m. kickoff.
