PHILADELPHIA - Saint Louis posted its second straight shutout in a 3-0 triumph over Atlantic 10 Conference foe Saint Joseph's Sunday afternoon in men's soccer action at Finnesey Field.
The win gives the Billikens (12-6-0, 7-2-0 A-10) the second seed in next week's A-10 Championship, which results in a first-round bye. SLU's first game in Kingston, R.I., on the campus of the University of Rhode Island will be Friday night at 6:30 p.m. (CT) versus the highest remaining seed following Thursday night's quarterfinal action.
The Billikens first entered the scoring column thanks to an own goal, putting them on top 1-0 at the 22:28 mark of the first half. That remained the score through halftime and into the second half, when sophomore forward Mike Roach tallied his team-leading eighth goal of the season in the 56th minute.
Sophomore Beau Bellomy tacked on a late insurance marker, his third goal of the year, to hand the Billikens the 3-0 victory.
SLU owned an 18-9 advantage in shots and a 6-2 advantage in corners. SLU keeper Ross Kaufman made four saves for his second straight and fifth shutout of the year.
Dayton is the No. 1 seed in the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship and will also have a first-round bye. No. 3 Fordham will face sixth-seeded St. Bonaventure in Thursday's first quarterfinal matchup, while No. 4 Rhode Island and No. 5 Charlotte will face each other in Thursday's nightcap.
