AKRON, Ohio - No. 1 Akron recorded a first-half goal and followed with three scores in the second half in a 4-0 victory against Saint Louis at Lee Jackson Field Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Zips claimed the University of Akron Tournament title.

Saint Louis slips to 3-3-0 on the season. The Billikens begin an eight-match homestand at Robert R. Hermann Stadium next Saturday, Sept. 26, when they host Tulsa in the annual Homecoming match. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.

"Akron is a powerful team, and we played them tough in the first half," Billikens head coach Dan Donigan said. "In the second half, they wore us down defensively and proved why they are the No. 1 team in the country. Our focus now shifts to getting ready for Tulsa next Saturday. Our schedule does not get easier even though we are playing at home."

The Billikens found themselves in an early hole when Akron (5-0-0) cracked the scoreboard on Darlington Nagbe's tally in the 16th minute. Kofi Sarkodie assisted on the scoring play.

The relentless Akron attack continued to press in the first half, but freshman goalie Mark Pais kept the Billikens in it by making six first-half saves to keep it a 1-0 game at intermission.

The Zips increased their lead to 2-0 less than 10 minutes into the second frame when Teal Bunbury scored his first of two consecutive goals. His second came in the 71st minute, giving the Zips a 3-0 cushion. Yoram Mwila completed the scoring for Akron with a goal in the 77th minute.

Akron out-shot the Bills 21-3 and held a 9-3 corner-kick advantage. Pais made a career-high eight saves for the Bills, while his Akron counterpart David Meves made one save for the shutout.

Sophomore forward Josh Aranda earned spots on the All-Tournament team.
