Box Score ST. LOUIS - Robbie Kristo netted his team-leading seventh goal in the
86th minute to give Saint Louis a come-from-behind, 2-1 Atlantic 10 Conference
victory over Richmond Sunday afternoon at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
The Billikens,
who captured their third consecutive win and sixth triumph in seven matches,
improved to 9-3 overall and 3-1 in the A-10. Richmond fell to 4-9, 0-4.
The game winner
came on a corner kick by Alex Sweetin, who collected his team-leading fourth assist of the
year. Kristo was able to connect solidly on a header from close range at the
85:08 mark despite a challenge from the Richmond keeper.
Richmond claimed
a 1-0 lead on Nick Butler's first goal of the season. Butler sent a 22-yard
free kick inside the left post at 53:27.
It took Saint
Louis less than a minute to notch the equalizer. William Hidalgo registered his first goal of
the season with an assist from Marco Heskamp at 54:22, tapping in a shot
from close range.
Sweetin fired a game-high six shots
for SLU, which out-shot Richmond 18-3.
"It was a little
disappointing today coming off an emotional win," head coach Mike McGinty said, referring to his team's
3-2 double-overtime victory over VCU Friday night. "I thought we needed a
little more cutting edge, a little more energy early. We knew Richmond was
going to make it difficult. Having them score first really put us in a bad
position. So I think we have to be a little more focused, a little more
professional so that we don't put ourselves in that position.
"At the same
time, it was an excellent reaction," McGinty said. "We scored immediately after
they scored, and we came back and won the game."
The Billikens
travel to Philadelphia to take on Saint Joseph's Friday, Oct. 19. First whistle
is slated for 6 p.m. (CT).
