Billikens Fall in Overtime at No. 11 Louisville, 3-2

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Saint Louis junior forward Robert Kristo scored two goals, including an equalizer with less than a minute remaining in regulation to send the game into overtime, but Saint Louis fell 3-2 at Louisville in a non-conference match Thursday night in rainy and windy conditions at Cardinal Park.

SLU, ranked as high as No. 20 in the county by Soccer America, dips to 9-4-2 overall. Louisville improves to 11-3-2.

The Cardinals struck first, scoring in the seventh minute when Andrew Brody took a cross from Richardo Velazco and fired just inside the right post to make it 1-0 Louisville.

The Billikens answered several minutes later. At the 9:32 mark of the opening half, Kristo rifled a ball from just outside the box past the Louisville keeper to make it 1-1.

That remained the score until late in the first half when Velazco scored on a penalty kick to push Louisville ahead 2-1.

SLU finally registered the equalizer with 45 seconds left in regulation. Senior defender Jon Roeckle sent a ball into the box from the right side that Kristo headed home to send the game into overtime.

However, Louisville won it a little more than five minutes into the extra session. Jimmy Ockford scored off assists from Daniel Keller and Velazco.

Saint Louis returns to action Sunday, Nov. 3, hosting Saint Joseph's for Senior Day at Robert R. Hermann Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Prior to the game, the Billikens will recognize seniors Adnan Gabeljic, Roeckle, Nick Shackelford and Alex Sweetin.
