ST. LOUIS – The Saint Louis University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) hosted the inaugural SLUSPYS Awards Banquet on Monday evening at Chaifetz Arena.
Student-athletes from all 18 athletic programs were on hand for the banquet. All winners of the awards were nominated and voted upon by members of the SLU community. The award winners are as follows:
Teams with highest GPA: Men's Tennis and Women's Soccer
Community Service Award: Women's Soccer
Best Comeback Athlete: Kwamain Mitchell (men's basketball)
Team “Billiken Bowl” Winner: Women's Soccer
Inspirational Award: Emily Evans (Saintsations)
Top Academic Male Student-Athlete: Adnan Gabeljic (men's soccer)
Top Academic Female Student-Athlete: Allison Walter and Elise Medley (cross country/track and field)
Top Athletic Male Student-Athlete: Dwayne Evans (men's basketball)
Top Athletic Female Student-Athlete: Margo Richardson (cross country/track and field)
Overall Outstanding Student-Athlete, by Class: Freshman – Tyler David (men's soccer); Sophomore – Kinglsey Bryce (men's soccer); Junior – Dwayne Evans (men's basketball); Senior – Hilary Orf (cross country/track and field).
Most Improved Student-Athlete: Brianna Lore (softball)
Outstanding Strength and Conditioning Awards: Spencer Litzau (swimming and diving), Cody Ellis (men's basketball), Carly Marcum (volleyball), Mallory Eggert (women's basketball).
Moment of the Year: Men's Basketball beating Butler at Chaifetz Arena and winning the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Billiken of Distinction “Step Up!” Award: Kelsey Coleman
SAAC Distinguished Service Award: Kinglsey Bryce and Kelsey Coleman
Boken Award: Carly Marcum
The program also recognized the contributions of SAAC as well as ResponsiBillikens. In addition, there were tributes to the late Megan Boken and Rick Majerus.
