ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis University's Robert R. Hermann Stadium was the site of a training session for Chelsea FC Tuesday, May 21, in preparation for the club's friendly against Manchester City Thursday, May 23, at Busch Stadium.
Members of the SLU men's soccer team, who are preparing for a training trip to Madrid, Spain, greeted the Chelsea team upon its arrival on campus and were allowed to observe the training session.
“Having Chelsea FC on campus was a fantastic experience for our players and coaching staff,” SLU head coach Mike McGinty said. “It was a once-in-a-lifetime chance for our student-athletes to observe one of the world's most prominent clubs and some of the world's greatest players up close.
“The interaction our players had with some of their idols was a unique opportunity that we were very fortunate to be a part of,” McGinty said. “The Chelsea players and staff were nothing but gracious and professional toward us, and we're very appreciative of that.”
