ST. LOUIS – Fordham's Filippo Ricupati scored in the 87th minute to lift the fifth-seeded Rams past No. 4 Saint Louis 1-0 on Saturday in an Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Soccer Championship quarterfinal match at Hermann Stadium.
The Billikens dip to 10-7 with the loss, while Fordham (7-10-2) advances to the A-10 semifinals.
Both teams had a penalty kick opportunity in the match. SLU's
Patrick Schulte came up with a big stop on a Fordham PK in the first half. Early in the second half, the Billikens drew a PK, but
Devin Boyce's attempt was saved by the Fordham keeper.
Ricupati's goal came after a SLU giveaway. He scored past Schulte inside the near post for the game winner.
The Billikens outshot the Rams 14-7 and had a 13-2 advantage in corner kicks. Fordham's Konstantin Weis made six saves for the shutout.
