ST. LOUIS – No. 15 Saint Louis got first-half goals from
Simon Becher and
Mujeeb Murana in a 2-0 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over Fordham Saturday night at Hermann Stadium.
Â
The Billikens remain unbeaten on the year at 7-0-3 overall and 3-0 in the league. SLU is in first place all alone in the A-10 standings. Fordham dips to 3-7-1 overall and 1-2-1 in the A-10.
Â
John Klein added to his NCAA lead in assists with two more tonight, giving him 10 on the year. He is the first Billiken to reach 10 assists in a season since Brandon Barklage finished with 10 in 2008, and there are still six remaining regular-season games on the schedule for Saint Louis.
Â
The Billikens opened the scoring in 22nd minute on the team-leading sixth goal of the season by Becher. He collected a Klein feed in the slot and carried it in to create an open net, and he buried it for the Billiken lead.
Â
Murana made it 2-0 on a header in the 31st minute. Klein whipped the ball into the box on a free kick, and Murana was there at the far post for the 2-0 SLU advantage.
Â
SLU keeper
Patrick Schulte made one save for his fifth shutout of the season. The Billikens outshot the Rams 18-8 and had a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Â
The Billikens have a two-game A-10 roadswing on tap next week, facing Saint Joseph's Wednesday, Oct. 6, and VCU Saturday, Oct. 9.
