ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis freshman forward Patrick Weah has signed a multi-year contract with Minnesota United of Major League Soccer.

"I would like to thank Coach Kalish and everyone at SLU for this amazing experience," Weah said. "I grew as a person and a player in my short time as a Billiken. The culture SLU has is special, it is a true family that has helped shaped me into the person I am today. They have such high standards on and off the field. I wish my SLU teammates nothing but the best moving forward and I know they will do special things."

Weah's Homegrown deal, which was announced Thursday, is for four years with a club option for a fifth season. A native of Minneapolis, Weah was the 2017 Minnesota State Player of the Year and was the leading goal scorer in the Loons' academy.

Weah scored in the Billikens' season opener against Kansas City on Feb. 3. He appeared in three matches in his Billiken career.

Saint Louis University has a strong tradition of sending its players to Major League Soccer. 28 Billikens have been taken in the MLS draft since its inaugural season in 1996. Notable Billikens who have played in MLS include Brad Davis (third all-time in assists), Jack Jewsbury (350+ appearances), National Soccer Hall of Fame inductee Brian McBride, and U.S. International Tim Ream.
