ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis' Simon Becher scored twice, including the golden goal in the 108th minute, to lift the Billikens to a thrilling 2-1 victory over Louisville Thursday in the season opener at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.Â
Becher's overtime game-winner came after back-and-forth action throughout the game. It was Becher who opened the scoring in the just the third minute of the match, heading home an Isaiah Parker corner kick to give SLU the early 1-0 lead. Â
Louisville tied the score in the 64th minute on a goal by Pedro Fonseca.Â
Both teams had several chances in the overtime periods, but it was Becher who ended it. On a SLU freekick, John Klein sent a ball into the area that Becher headed over the Louisville keeper for the game-winning tally.Â
Becher now has 16 career goals to lead all active SLU players. Parker got a point in his collegiate debut with an assist on Becher's first goal. Klein's assist on the game-winner was the eighth of his career.Â
Saint Louis, which is receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches preseason poll, is back in action Sunday at 3 p.m. against Creighton at Hermann Stadium. The Bluejays dropped a 2-1 decision against Tulsa tonight in their season opener.Â
