ST. LOUIS – No. 16 Saint Louis blanked Memphis 3-0 Monday in a nonconference men's soccer matchup at Hermann Stadium.
Â
SLU received goals from
Patrick Wilkinson,
Kevin Komodi and
Isaiah Parker as it remained unbeaten on the year at 3-0-1. Memphis falls to 0-3-1.
Â
It was the 800
th win all-time for the Billikens, who are in their 63
rd season. Since 1959, the Billikens are 800-265-113.
Â
Saint Louis was leading 1-0 when a Tiger received a red card in the 66
th minute. It was all SLU after that, with the Billikens scoring two second-half goals to put the game out of reach.
Â
SLU goalkeeper
Patrick Schulte was sharp in goal, making five saves for his second clean sheet of the year.
Â
Wilkinson put the Billikens on top in the 17th minute with his first career goal.
Simon Becher had a touch to a streaking
John Klein down the right side. Klein sent a ball into the box to a challenged Wilkinson, but he managed to get a foot on the ball and scored from close range for the eventual game-winning goal.
Â
Memphis played a man down for the final 25 minutes after Toby McCallum was sent off after receiving his second yellow. Moments later, however, Schulte had to come up big on a save diving to his left.
Â
But it was then all Billikens. Komodi registered his first goal as a Billiken on a perfectly struck free kick in the 72
nd minute after Becher drew a foul at the top of the box. Komodi tucked one into the upper left corner to give SLU the 2-0 lead.
Â
Just three minutes later, it was 3-0 Billikens. Komodi and Parker played a give-and-go, with Komodi sending one in from the left side of the box to an open Parker. He finished for his first career goal for the 3-0 SLU cushion.
Â
The Billikens return to action on Friday, Sept. 10, for their first road game of the year when they travel to No. 9 SMU. Game time in Dallas is set for 7 p.m. The Mustangs were 2-0 entering their game tonight against Denver.
