MSOC Preview: Billikens, Hoosiers Meet Sunday in NCAA Second Round

Saint Louis travels to Bloomington, Indiana, on Sunday to take on the No. 13 national seed Indiana Hoosiers in the second round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. Game time is set for 11 a.m. (CT). The match will be streamed live on ESPN+.
 
Saint Louis (12-4-3) defeated Memphis in the first round to advance to Sunday. As a top 16 seed, Indiana (10-4-6) received a bye into the second round.
 
The Billikens, who are unbeaten in their last nine, captured the A-10 regular-season and tournament titles. Indiana lost in the Big Ten final against Rutgers and earned an at-large bid into the NCAAs.
 
Sunday's match pits two of the most storied programs in collegiate soccer against each other. Saint Louis has won a record 10 NCAA titles and is making its NCAA-leading 50th appearance in the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. Indiana has now qualified for the NCAA Championship 47 times in 50 seasons, including nine straight in which it received a national seed. The Hoosiers have won eight NCAA titles.
 
The winner advances to the third round where it will face either No. 4 national seed Virginia or Marshall. The Cavaliers and Thundering Herd play Sunday at noon (CT).
 
Here are five additional facts in advance of Sunday's match vs. Indiana.
 
1 // Seth Anderson scored a goal and added an assist as Saint Louis defeated Memphis 4-2 Thursday night at Hermann Stadium in the first round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. Anderson is fourth on the Bills with 11 points (3G, 5A).
 
2 // The Billikens are making their 50th appearance in the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship, which remains the most all-time. SLU has won a record 10 NCAA titles. Last season, the Billikens advanced to the NCAA quarterfinals, their deepest NCAA run since 2003.
 
3 // John Klein, the A-10 co-Offensive Player of the Year, leads the Billikens in scoring with 19 points (7G, 5A). He is 16th in school history with 85 career points (29G, 27A). His 27 assists are tied for ninth all-time at SLU.
 
4 // Carlos Tofern was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Soccer Championship. He totaled six saves in penalty-kick shootouts in the semifinal and final to propel the Billikens to the title. Also earning spots on the A-10 All-Championship team were CJ Coppola, John Klein, Alberto Suarez and Lane Warrington.
 
5 // Indiana leads the all-time series against the Billikens 23-17-5. The series dates back to 1959, when Indiana was competing prior to moving to varsity status. The Hoosiers have won six in a row in the series. This will be the fifth time Saint Louis has played Indiana in the NCAA Championship. IU won the previous four.
