Klein Drafted by St. Louis CITY SC

ST. LOUIS – John Klein, who recently concluded a highly successful career with the Billikens, was selected by St. Louis CITY SC with the first pick of the second round (30th overall) in Wednesday's 2023 Major League Soccer SuperDraft.

The 2022 Atlantic 10 Conference co-Offensive Player of the Year, Klein finished his illustrious Billiken career with 85 career points (29G, 27A), which ranks 16th in school history. His 27 assists are tied for ninth all-time at SLU. In 2001, Klein led the NCAA with 15 assists.

Klein arrived at SLU in head coach Kevin Kalish's first season, and the two have helped rejuvenate the SLU program. The Billikens have captured back-to-back A-10 regular-season and tournament crowns. In 2021, Saint Louis went undefeated in the regular season and advanced to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. The Bills made another appearance in the NCAAs this season as well.

Saint Louis men's soccer has a long history of sending players to Major League Soccer. A total of 38 Billikens have been drafted in MLS, including seven in the last two years alone. Last season, six Billiken players were taken in the SuperDraft, including four first-rounders.
