Five Billikens Snag All-Conference Honors

ST. LOUIS – Five Saint Louis University Billikens earned postseason Atlantic 10 Conference men's soccer honors, the league announced.

Diego Konincks was named the A-10 Defensive Player of the Year and landed on the first team, along with Christian Buendia who earned first-team plaudits. Goalkeeper Jeremi Abonnel was named second-team All-Conference.

The Billikens placed two players on the league's All-Rookie Team as Tanner Anderson and Carlos Leatherman were honored.

In addition to their first-team All-Conference honors, Buendia and Konincks were voted to the All-Academic team.

Konincks was a mainstay on the Billikens' back line, starting every game and helping the Billikens register a 0.99 goals against average and five shutouts. Offensively, he scored four goals, including the game-winner in the win against La Salle.

Konincks is the fourth Billiken in as many years to be named A-10 Defensive Player of the Year, joining Patrick Schulte (2020), Kipp Keller (2021) and Alberto Suarez (2022).

Buendia earned first-team All-Conference plaudits for a second straight season and the third time in his Billiken career. He started all 17 games and finished the season second on the team with 12 points (4G, 4A).

Abonnel posted a 0.93 goals against average and four shutouts between the posts, going 6-1-4 in his 11 starts. In conference play only, Abonnel had a 0.67 GAA to go along with a 3-0-3 record and four shutouts.

Anderson appeared in all 17 games for the Bills and finished with nine points (4G, 1A). Leatherman started 11 games and registered a pair of assists.
