NORMAL, Ill. – Saint Louis opened its indoor track and field campaign this weekend at the John Coughlan Invite on the campus of Illinois State University.

The Billikens achieved two new school records and several Billikens won their events.

In the women's 60 meters, Emily Nichols ran 7.74 in the prelims for a school record, besting the previous time of 7.82 set by Avery Pacella in the 2018-19 season.

Samantha Kunza, competing in her first meet as a Billiken after transferring from Alabama, won the women's weight throw and smashed the school record in the process, posting a toss of 60-9.25. The previous school-record distance of 53-9.25 was set last year by Angelina White.

Carson Amstutz won the men's 400 meters with a time of 51.31. Jayden Kouadio turned in a PR in the men's high jump of 6-2, while Evan Bruenderman won the men's triple jump with a mark of 48-2.5.

The Billikens' women's 4x400-meter relay won the event with a time of 3:58.30. The team was comprised of Jillian Jackson, Patricia O'Neill, Mikayla McDowell and Emily Nichols.

SLU returns to action Friday, Dec. 8, for the Indiana Early Bird Meet at Indiana University. The Bills then break for Christmas and will resume their season Jan. 19-20 at Vanderbilt.
