ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis women's tennis improved to 4-1 on the season with a 6-1 victory over IUPUI Friday night at the Missouri Athletic Club West.
"Our doubles play was solid overall," head coach
Justin Stuckey said. "IUPUI crossed and executed well in doubles. I thought our singles play was very good during the important points. Overall, we played well today."
Wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles gave SLU a 1-0 lead.
Norhan Hesham and
Mya Spencer took down Samantha Hayward and Meghan Bernard 6-3 at No. 1, while
Elizabeth Mintusova and
Ksenia Aleshina prevailed 6-1 over Emma Dell and Grace Lampman at No. 2.
Spencer and
Sandra Gines survived second-set challenges to win at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Spencer was a 6-4, 7-6 winner over Sarah Lounsbury, and Gines got past Marta Krakowski 6-2, 7-6.
Mintusova topped Bernard 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1, Hesham was a 6-2, 6-1 victor over Hayward at No. 2, and Aleshina defeated Lampman 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4.
