Gillen Sets Record, Wins 5,000 Meters at Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. – After an impressive indoor track and field season, Toby Gillen picked up where he left off in his debut in outdoor track when he won the 5,000 meters and set the school record in the process at the Raleigh Relays Thursday night on the campus of North Carolina State University.

Gillen ran a 13:35.29, a meet record, to win the 5,000 meters. It broke his own school record of 14:07.63 that he set last season. Gillen's 5,000-meter time is currently the top mark in the NCAA through three weeks of competition.

During the indoor campaign, Gillen was named the Most Outstanding Performer of the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships after winning gold medals in the 3,000 and 5,000 meters. As a freshman in 2021-22, Gillen combined for four medals including two golds in the indoor and outdoor conference meets.

Carly Sear competed in the 10,000 meters on Thursday and turned in a PR of 35:46.45. Also running Thursday was Matt de Haas, who registered a time of 3:51.38 in the 1,500 meters.

Other Billikens who competed included Emily Nichols and Danny Hopkins running in the 400 meters, and Myles Gascon and Will Stewart competing in the 100 meters.
