ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 9 seed Saint Louis stormed back from a 3-0 deficit to tie the match, but top-seeded VCU came away with a 4-3 victory Friday in an Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Tennis Championship quarterfinal match at the USTA National Campus.

The Billikens finished the season with 18 wins (18-7), the second-highest total in program history. Elizabeth Mintusova broke the SLU single-season record for doubles victories, joining Kseniia Aleshina for a win at No. 2. Mintusova concluded the year with a 27-2 doubles mark (21-2 with Aleshina).

Despite the 6-2 doubles triumph by Mintusova and Aleshina over Yelizaveta Karlova and Emma Valletta, VCU collected the point with wins at Nos. 1 and 3.

Victories at Nos. 6 and 3 singles put the Rams on the brink of a sweep, but Saint Louis had other ideas.

The comeback began with Norhan Hesham's 6-3, 6-4 win over Karlova at No. 2. In the remaining three contests, Saint Louis dropped the first set but bounced back in the second to force a deciding frame.

At No. 5, Mya Spencer pulled away from Anja Draskovic to win 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Mintusova trailed Victoria Smirnova 5-4 in the second set at No. 1, but she rallied to tie the match and ultimately prevailed 3-6, 7-5, 6-4, knotting the teams at 3-3.

Aleshina's No. 4 match went to a third-set tiebreaker, with VCU's Gabriela Davidescu surviving 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7-4) to put the Rams into Saturday's semifinals.
