NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Louis University senior
Elizabeth Mintusova is the 2022-23 Atlantic 10 Conference women's tennis co-Performer of the Year, the league office announced Tuesday.
Mintusova's selection marks the fourth time a SLU student-athlete has earned the A-10's top honor in women's tennis. Hailee Elmore won the award in 2010 and 2011, and Aspen Cervin was the 2016 recipient.
Mintusova is the sixth player in Billiken women's tennis history to collect All-Conference laurels three or more times, joining Elmore (four times), Cervin (four times), Casey Miller, Jenny Nalepa and Stephanie Hollis. She was a first-team choice in 2021 and a second-team pick in 2022.
Junior
Norhan Hesham garnered an All-Conference nod for a second consecutive year. Hesham was voted to the second team.
A three-time A-10 Player of the Week this year, Mintusova posted a 25-6 overall singles record that included an 18-3 mark (17-3 at No. 1) in dual matches. The 25 wins tied the fifth-highest single-season total in program history and included a 5-0 record (2-0 at the A-10 Championship) vs. A-10 opponents.
In doubles, Mintusova set the school record of 27 victories (27-2), and her 21-1 ledger in duals included a 20-1 mark at No. 2. Her 5-0 slate vs. A-10 foes included two wins at the A-10 Championship.
"This is a great accomplishment and well deserved for Elizabeth," head coach
Justin Stuckey said. "She has played at the top of the lineup ever since joining the program. It was very clear three years ago that this was something she could achieve, so it's great to see her receive this recognition. Elizabeth hasn't lost an A-10 singles match in three seasons, and she improved the consistency in her game this year, which speaks to her strong play in singles and doubles."
Hesham missed the fall season but bounced back to turn in a 12-7 singles record (all at No. 2) in spring duals. She won both of her singles contests at the A-10 Championship, part of a 4-1 record vs. league opponents. Hesham also contributed a 10-7 doubles record, all at No. 1.
"Norhan had a very strong end to the spring season at the top of the lineup in singles and doubles," Stuckey said. "She became one of the singles courts we could count on to help us get the win in many of the matches we played."
Mintusova and Hesham helped the Billikens register 18 wins, the second-highest total in program history.
