Saint Louis leads 27-9-3 |
One of the great rivalries in all of college soccer will be played Saturday at CITYPARK in downtown St. Louis as the Saint Louis Billikens and SIUE Cougars meet at 7:30 p.m. The Bronze Boot trophy is on the line.
SLU enters the match 1-1 after a season-opening home win against Butler, followed by a 2-1 defeat at Lipscomb. The Cougars are 2-0 after home victories against Central Arkansas and Butler.
Tickets for the match are $20 (general admission) or $10 for groups and can be purchased through Seat Geek. The SLU and SIUE women's teams play at 5 p.m. at CITYPARK. One ticket is good for both matches.
Here are five facts in advance of Saturday's match against SIUE.
1 //Â Saint Louis leads the Bronze Boot series 23-5-3. Since the series was resumed in 2018, SLU holds a 2-0-2 advantage. Saint Louis has been the keeper of the Bronze Boot trophy since 1983.
2 //Â The rivalry between SLU and SIUE extends beyond just the Bronze Boot games. This will be the 40th meeting between the teams, which included nine matchups in the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship. SIUE is the Billikens' second most played opponent, trailing only Indiana (46 meetings).
3 //Â There are several ties to SIUE on the Billikens' coaching staff. Kevin Kalish spent 14 years at SIUE on the men's soccer staff, including six as head coach. SLU assistant coach Kevin Stoll played at SIUE his senior season (for Kalish) after transferring from Illinois-Chicago.
4 //Â The Billikens are getting it done on the recruiting trail. The 2023 class was tabbed No. 1 in the country by Top Drawer Soccer. Next year's class also has a No. 1 ranking in the nation by PrepSoccer.com.Â
5 // Saint Louis is ranked in all three national polls – No. 15 at United Soccer Coaches, No. 20 at College Soccer News and No. 20 at Top Drawer Soccer.
