BIlls Score in Each Half in 2-0 Win Over Rhody

ST. LOUIS – Mads Stistrup Petersen and Tanner Anderson both scored to propel Saint Louis to a key 2-0 victory over Rhode Island Saturday in Atlantic 10 Conference men's soccer action at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.

The Billikens are now 4-3-2 on the season and 2-0-1 in the A-10. SLU's unbeaten streak stands at five. Rhode Island falls to 2-4-3 overall and 0-2-1 in league play.

Stistrup Petersen's goal was his first of the year. Galen Flynn started the play with a long throw-in, and it was headed into the goal mouth by Max Floriani. Petersen was there to head it to the right of the URI keeper and into the side netting for the game-winning tally.

Rhode Island, which held a 14-11 advantage in shots, continued to pressure and nearly scored early in the second half, if not for Diego Konincks clearing one off the line.

Tanner Anderson put the game to bed in the 87th minute as a pair of freshmen linked up for the insurance goal. Cole Dougherty had an initial shot that was saved. The rebound went to Anderson who scored his first-career goal. It was also Dougherty's first-career point.

Jeremi Abonnel made three saves for his second shutout of the season.

The Billikens are back in action Wednesday afternoon when they travel to play George Washington for an A-10 matchup.
