Freshmen Lead Billikens at A-10 Championships

MECHANICSVILLE, Va. – Saint Louis' cross country squads were led by a pair of freshmen on Saturday at the Atlantic 10 Conference Championships, held at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville, Va.

On the women's side, newcomer Emery Mayfield led the Billikens in the 6K, covering the course in 21:19.4 to place 20th overall. Emily Morden was next for SLU, placing 22nd with a time of 21:21.7.

Sophia Pelligreen pulled in 57th with a time of 22:03.4 Rounding out the scoring for Saint Louis was Clara Gillen (75th, 22:15.9) and Starr Scott (22:22.6). 

The women's team finished ninth with 237 points.

The men were led by freshman Manny Vela, who placed 21st in the 8K with a time of 24:40.7. He finished just ahead of George Blanco (24:41.4) in 22nd.

Lukasz Iwanowski was next with a 26th-place finish of 24:48.2. Tyler Schweizer finished 33rd with a time of 24:58.8, and Brock Waugh finished the scoring with a time of 25:15.7 in 54th.

The men's squad placed sixth with 155 points.

The Billikens are back in action on Nov. 15 for the NCAA Midwest Regionals, held in Peoria, Illinois.
