ST. LOUIS – Kansas City scored twice in the second half to upend Saint Louis 2-0 Thursday in the first round of the NCAA Men's Soccer Championship at Hermann Stadium.
The Billikens end their season at 8-5-8. Kansas City improves to 13-4-3 and advances to face Missouri State on Sunday night in the second round.
SLU applied the pressure early on, outshooting the Roos 9-3 in the first half.
But it was Kansas City who struck first when it scored on a corner kick in the 67th minutes. Guille Munoz headed home a Julien Le Bourdoulous corner kick for the eventual game-winning tally.
Jeremy Francou made it 2-0 in the 83rd minute when he scored off an Eli Kisoka assist.
SLU ended the game with a 14-13 advantage in shots and a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.
Kansas City keeper Brandon McGaugh made six saves for the clean sheet.
