ST. LOUIS – Pat McBride, one of the most decorated student-athletes in the storied history of Saint Louis men's soccer, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 11. He was 81.
McBride played for the Billikens for three seasons from 1963-65. He won two national championships with the Bills in 1963 and 1965.Â
McBride is fifth in school history with 130 career points (46G, 38A). His 38 assists are fourth in SLU annals, while his 46 goals are tied for seventh in Billiken history.
A two-time All-American in 1964 and 1965, McBride is a member of the National Soccer Hall of Fame, Billiken Hall of Fame, and was voted to the Billikens' All-Century Team in 2009.
After his graduation from SLU, McBride played professionally with the St. Louis Stars and was captain of the U.S. Men's National Team.
McBride coached at many levels, including stints at SIUE, Meramec Community College, Forest Park Community College, and the MISL's St. Louis Steamers.
McBride left an indelible impact on the SLU men's soccer program and throughout the community. On behalf of Billiken Athletics, we send our condolences to his family, friends, teammates, and the many athletes he impacted on the pitch.Â
Services will be held at St. Francis Xavier College Church on the Saint Louis University campus on Saturday, Dec. 21. Visitation is at 9 a.m., followed by a Memorial Mass at 10 a.m.
