One of the oldest school records in the Billiken record book was exceeded this weekend as
Emily Nichols broke the school mark in the 200 meters at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational at Boston University.
Â
In fact, two Billikens bettered the previous record. Nichols finished in 25.03 to place 19th overall and snag the new school standard in 200 meters. Also meeting the previous record time was
Mikayla McDowell, who finished with a mark of 25.15, the second-best time in school history.
Â
The previous record in the 200 meters was set by Tiffany Alexander at the 2011 A-10 Championships when she finished in 25.30 in the preliminary heat.
Â
Another record fell this weekend in a different meet, as the Billikens also sent athletes to compete in the Titan Open at Illinois Wesleyan.
Samantha Kunza bettered her own school record in the weight throw, winning the event with a distance of 18.93. That topped the previous record of 18.52 that she set at the John Couglan Invite, her first event of the year.
Â
Also at the David Hemery Valentine Invitational,
Harrison Martinenko turned in a PR in the mile, running 4:02.82. That is the second-fastest time so far in the Atlantic 10 this season.
Â
Saint Louis is back in action Saturday, Feb. 17, for the Don DeNoon Invitational at Southern Illinois. It is the last test for the Billikens before the A-10 Indoor Championships Feb. 23-24 in Virginia Beach, Virginia.
