EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Saint Louis men's tennis collected its first win of the season Sunday, defeating Southern Indiana 4-0 at Evansville Tennis Center.
The Billikens (1-1) began the match by taking all three doubles contests.
Jonathan Sadowski and
Theo Ortis blanked Axel Sabourin and Mathys Bove 6-0 at No. 1,
Ryota Fukushima and
Luca Lo Nardo were 6-1 winners over Eytan Michaeli and Guy Finkelstein at No. 3, and
Adam Behun and
Declan Townsend completed the sweep by defeating Dylan Brown and Quinten Gillespie 6-3 at No. 2.
Fukushima claimed the Bills' first singles win, downing Michaeli 6-4, 6-3 at No. 1. Ortis got past Bove 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3, and Lo Nardo secured the Billikens' victory by outlasting Sabourin 3-6, 7-6 (7-3), 6-4 at No. 2.
"We played very sound doubles today," head coach
Justin Stuckey said. "I thought our energy was good, along with our movement. We had some slow starts in singles but rebounded well to get the job done."
The Billikens host Eastern Illinois Thursday, Feb. 15. Match time at St. Clair Tennis Club in O'Fallon, Ill., is noon.
