O'FALLON, Ill. – Saint Louis women's tennis breezed past Eastern Illinois 7-0 Wednesday afternoon at St. Clair Tennis Club.
With the victory, the Billikens are off to a 3-0 start for the first time since the 2015-16 season.
Norhan Hesham and
Nicolly Ferreira got SLU off to a good start with a 6-2 win over Charleigh Fay and Luisa Ren-Salazar at No. 2 doubles. A 6-4 victory for
Kseniia Aleshina and
Emmerson White over Michelle Kostadinova and Em Pilipovic-Kljajic at No. 3 clinched the point.
Sandra Gines recorded the Bills' first singles win of the day, cruising past Ren-Salazar 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5. White defeated Pilipovic-Kljajic 6-2, 6-3 at No. 6, and Hesham's 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Jemma Booth at No. 2 secured the Saint Louis victory.
Completing the sweep were
Elizabeth Mintusova, 6-2, 6-2 over Addison Brown at No. 1; Ferreira, 6-3, 6-3 over Kostadinova at No. 4; and Aleshina, who rallied for a 2-6, 6-4, 10-4 win over Fay at No. 3.
"We played as a team from start to finish today," head coach
Justin Stuckey said. "Credit to EIU for the energy they brought in doubles. We have some things to work on before the next match with regards to our execution at the net in doubles. Everyone did a lot better in singles at the start of the match, and that really helped with the momentum to get the team win."
