O'FALLON, Ill. – Ryota Fukushima and Valentin Vasquez were double winners in Saint Louis' 5-2 victory over Eastern Illinois Thursday afternoon at St. Clair Tennis Club.
 
Fukushima and Vasquez edged Tyler Carlin and Zach White 7-5 at No. 2 doubles, and the Billikens (2-1) added a walkover win at No. 3 to snag the doubles point.
 
Another walkover at No. 6 singles put SLU on top 2-0. Fukushima's 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Pau Riera at No. 1 brought the Bills one point closer, and Vasquez clinched the victory by defeating White 7-6 (7-4), 6-0 at No. 4. Adam Behun delivered a fifth point, getting past William Hays 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5.
 
"I was really proud of our aggressiveness in doubles," head coach Justin Stuckey said. "That was a bright spot for us today. We had several slow starts in singles and had moments when we needed to step up, and we did so. We do have some things to work on with moving forward into the court before the next match. Overall, it was a great team win today."
 
The Billikens travel to Evansville, Ind., for a neutral-site match with Austin Peay Sunday, Feb. 18, at 11 a.m.
