Complete Results

EVANSVILLE, Ind.Theo Ortis and Valentin Vasquez overcame first-set losses to claim narrow victories in their singles matches, and Saint Louis improved to 3-1 with a hard-fought 4-3 win over Austin Peay on Sunday.

The Billikens, who captured a third straight victory, trailed 1-0 after Austin Peay grabbed the doubles point.

Adam Behun's 6-1, 6-2 win over Glen Arnet at No. 6 singles evened the match, and Luca Lo Nardo gave SLU a 2-1 lead by outlasting Aeneas Schaub 6-4, 7-5 at No. 3.

With the contest knotted 2-2 following Austin Peay's win at No. 1, Ortis put the Billikens back on top with a 4-6, 6-1, 7-5 triumph over Tom Bolton at No. 4. The Governors stayed alive by prevailing at No. 2, setting the stage for Vasquez's thrilling 2-6, 7-6, 7-5 match-clinching win at No. 5.

"First, credit to Austin Peay as they played well today," head coach Justin Stuckey said. "We really had to earn the win. We got ourselves into a bit of trouble early by losing the doubles point and had to fight back hard to win four courts of singles.

"I was really proud of our grit and determination," Stuckey said. "We do have some things to work on and improve immediately with our doubles play before we get back after it for our next competition."

Up next for the Billikens is a match at Chicago State in Homewood, Ill., on Saturday, Feb. 24, at 1:30 p.m.
