HOMEWOOD, Ill. – Saint Louis men's tennis extended its winning streak to four Saturday, overcoming a 2-0 deficit to post a 4-3 victory over Chicago State.
The Billikens (4-1) began doubles play on the right foot as
Valentin Vasquez and
Luca Lo Nardo defeated Percy Siercke and Reed Gahagan 6-1 at No. 3. However, Chicago State claimed the point by winning at Nos. 1 and 2, and the Cougars made it 2-0 with a victory at No. 1 singles.
SLU rattled off wins in the next three completed matches to gain a 3-2 edge. Lo Nardo topped Max Sandoval 6-1, 6-2 at No. 3,
Theo Ortis got past Zak Radziwillowicz 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4, and Vasquez breezed past Gahagan 6-1, 6-2 at No. 6.
Chicago State stayed alive by prevailing at No. 2. That set the stage for
Adam Behun's match-clinching triumph at No. 5, a 6-4, 6-4 decision over Siercke.
The Billikens take on Lindenwood Tuesday, Feb. 27. Match time at St. Clair Tennis Club in O'Fallon, Ill., is 11 a.m.
