11 Billikens Earn Medals at A-10 Championships

VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia – Saint Louis' indoor track and field squads brought home 11 medals from the Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships, which were held this weekend at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
 
The Billikens had two conference champions. Evan Bruenderman got it started by winning the triple jump with a new school-record mark of 15.27 meters.
 
Moments later, Harrison Martinenko won gold in the mile, crossing the finish in 4:07.28.
 
Also on the men's side, Will Stewart won the bronze in the 200 meters (21.71). James Baker took home the bronze in the heptathlon with a school-record point total of 4,802.
 
On the women's side, Emily Nichols won the silver in the 400 meters with a new school-record time of 55.36. Mikayla McDowell (55.39) won the bronze, and in the prelims ran the school-record time that Nichols broke in the final.
 
Samantha Kunza won the bronze in the weight throw with a distance of 18.39 meters.
 
The Billikens' 4x400-meter relay squad, comprised of Patricia O'Neill, Becky Phillips, McDowell and Nichols, earned the bronze with a time of 3:49.34.
 
As a team, the men placed fourth, matching its best finish in school history. The women finished 10th.
