HOMEWOOD, Ill. – Saint Louis women's tennis remained undefeated with a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Chicago State Saturday night.
Four of the six singles matches went to a third set, and the Billikens (5-0) captured wins in three of them including two in come-from-behind fashion.
SLU took a 1-0 lead by grabbing the doubles point.
Emmerson White and
Sandra Gines beat Helin Alvarez and Katarina Dukic 6-3 at No. 3, followed by a 7-6 (7-3) win for
Elizabeth Mintusova and
Kseniia Aleshina over Manuella Eloundou and Nia Cooper at No. 1.
Chicago State surged ahead with victories at Nos. 4 and 3 singles, only to see Saint Louis regain the upper hand by winning the next two contests. White topped Cooper 1-6, 6-4, 6-4 at No. 6, while Mintusova outlasted Eloundou 7-5, 3-6, 6-1 at No. 1.
The Cougars pulled even by capturing the No. 2 match, placing the No. 5 contest as the decider. Gines came through with a 5-7, 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Ethel Li.
The Billikens host Lindenwood Wednesday, Feb. 28. First serve at St. Clair Tennis Club in O'Fallon, Ill., is slated for noon.
