More school records fell this weekend for the Billikens' indoor track and field squads. The majority of the team participated in the Meyo Invitational at Notre Dame, while the women's pentathletes competed at Illinois Wesleyan.

At Notre Dame, numerous PRs were met by Billiken athletes, including three new school records.

Will Stewart exceeded his own school record in the 200 meters, lowering his time to 21.72 to finish fourth in the event. He also qualified for the finals in the 60 meters and placed seventh.

Harrison Martinenko ran 1:51.53 in the 800 meters for a new school record, finishing third. That bettered the previous record set last year by
Matt de Haas (1:51.57).

Evan Bruenderman completed the record-setting day with a new school-record mark in the triple jump. He leaped 49 feet, 0.75 inches to better the previous record set by Ethan Erusha (48-11.5) at the 2020 Atlantic 10 Conference Championship. Bruenderman also placed fourth in the long jump with a distance of 22-1.5.

There were several other top-eight finishers at Notre Dame. On the women's side, freshman
Sophia Pelligreen won the women's 3,000 meter open race with a time of 9:51.63.
Emily Nichols came in fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 56.35.

The women's 4x400-meter relay of
Patricia O'Neill,
Becky Phillips,
Mikayla McDowell and
Emily Nichols turned in an eighth-place finish with a time of 3:54.51.

SLU's distance medley relay –
Jordan Kantola,
Zora Williams,
Abby Kieffer and
Sonja Morin – ran 12:19.54 to finish fifth.

On the men's side,
Sam Bowerman was eighth in the long jump with a leap of 20-3.5.
Firaol Ahmed came in third overall in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:27.04.

The men's 4x400-meter relay, comprised of
Jace Peterson,
Carson Amstutz,
Aidan Martin and
Malik Stewart, went for a fifth-place time of 3:22.84.

In the pentathlon at the IWU Multi on Friday,
Ella Coppinger (2,906 points) and
Caroline Bell (2,836) achieved PRs and placed second and third, respectively.

Another busy weekend awaits the Billikens next. The team will be split between the David Hemery Valentine Invitational in Boston (Feb. 9-10) and the Titan Open at Illinois Wesleyan (Feb. 10) in Bloomington, Illinois.
