Outdoor Opener Held at Murray State

MURRAY, Ky. – Saint Louis' outdoor track and field squads competed in its first outdoor meet of the season this weekend, the Margaret Simmons Invitational hosted by Murray State University.
 
Several Billikens earned top three finishes in their respective events. Most notably, Samantha Kunza won the hammer throw and broke the school record in the process, tossing 65.93 meters. SLU Academic Coordinator and former Billiken thrower, Jasmine Jefko, had the previous school record of 49.49 meters, which she set in 2018.
 
Jordan Kantola placed third in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:31.32.
 
On the men's side, Aaron Toben turned in a second-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (55.61) and was third in the 400 meters (50.57). Jack McPhillips was the runner-up in the 800 meters with a time of 1:57.88.
 
Firaol Ahmed placed second in the 1,500 meters, crossing the line in a time of 3:59.91. Ethan Bryant placed third in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.36.
 
In the team scores, the Billiken men placed fourth out of 14 teams. The women were fifth out of 13 teams.
