CINCINNATI – Saint Louis overcame a strong challenge from Duquesne and defeated the Dukes 4-2 Thursday at Five Seasons Racquet Club.

The Billikens improved to 13-2 with a fifth consecutive victory.

After Duquesne won at No. 3 doubles, Adam Behun and Declan Townsend topped Jin Dassanayake and Bode Vance 6-2 at No. 2. That left the point to be decided at No. 1, where Theo Ortis and Andres Castellanos came through with a 7-6 (7-5) win over Kaipo Marshall and Tamirlan Teberikov.

Duquesne recorded its two points by claiming wins at Nos. 1 and 2 singles. At No. 3, Townsend outlasted Keita Duclos 6-3, 2-6, 6-2; Ortis triumphed over Alfrendo Vogelaar 6-2, 6-4 at No. 4; and Valentin Vasquez glided past Vance 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6.

"Doubles was key today," head coach Justin Stuckey said. "For Theo and Andres to play together in their first match at No. 1 doubles against a very good Duquesne first doubles team and get the win was a tone-setter heading into singles. Duquesne started to match our energy in singles and doubles, which made it a very competitive match. Singles became a complete team win with our energy and momentum. Everyone had a part in today's win, which is the way we like things to be."

The Billikens play at 27th-ranked Illinois Saturday, April 13.
