ORLANDO, Fla. –
Andres Castellanos overcame a 5-3 deficit in the third set to win his No. 2 singles match and send No. 4 seed Saint Louis to a 4-3 victory over No. 5 George Mason in an Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Tennis Championship quarterfinal contest Friday morning at the USTA National Campus.
The win – SLU's sixth by a 4-3 score this season – propels the Billikens (15-3) into the A-10 Championship semifinals for the second time in program history (2009). Additionally, the victory gave Saint Louis at least 15 wins in consecutive seasons for the second time (1978 and 1979). Last year's Billikens posted a 15-6 record.
The Bills' semifinal opponent will be top-seeded and six-time defending champion VCU (13-9), with first serve scheduled for Saturday at 8 a.m. Central. VCU defeated Duquesne 4-0 in its quarterfinal match.
