Lo Nardo, Townsend Earn All-Conference Honors

WASHINGTON – Saint Louis University sophomores Luca Lo Nardo and Declan Townsend have been selected to the Atlantic 10 men's tennis All-Conference second team, the league office announced Tuesday.

Lo Nardo posted a 12-12 singles record and a 14-8 doubles mark; his 26 total wins and 14 doubles victories led Saint Louis. In dual competition, he played at least one singles match at four different positions and was 6-3 at his primary No. 3 spot. Lo Nardo collected a team-high eight doubles wins in dual matches.

"Luca played almost every spot in the singles lineup for us this year, and the same for doubles," head coach Justin Stuckey said. "He was a big part of the team's success."

Townsend turned in records of 14-8 in singles, tying for the team lead in victories, and 11-11 in doubles. He tied for second on the team in total wins and doubles wins. In dual matches, he notched a 10-6 singles mark that included a combined 9-2 at No. 3 and No. 4. Townsend was 3-1 in singles vs. A-10 opponents, including a victory vs. George Mason in the A-10 Championship, and registered a 5-2 record in singles matches that went to three sets or a super-tiebreaker.

"Declan transitioned well into the program and our expectations," Stuckey said. "For him to come in and right away make an impact with his singles and doubles play was tremendous for the team's success."

Lo Nardo and Townsend helped SLU to a 15-5 record. The Billikens reached the A-10 Championship semifinals and earned a bid to the UTR Sports NIT Championship.
