2024 CITYPARK Game

Saint Louis, SIUE Soccer Teams to Square Off Once Again at CITYPARK

ST. LOUIS – For a second consecutive year, CITYPARK, home to Major League Soccer's St. Louis CITY SC, will host men's and women's soccer games matching Saint Louis University and SIUE Sunday, September 8, in an afternoon/evening doubleheader.

The women's game will kick off at 3:30 p.m., with the men's contest following at 6:30 p.m.

The SLU-SIUE men's match will be the 33rd edition of the Bronze Boot, one of collegiate soccer's most storied rivalries.

"The SIUE and SLU matchup not only honors the esteemed tradition of collegiate soccer in our region but also shines a spotlight on the vibrant soccer culture that CITYPARK is dedicated to nurturing," said Diego Gigliani, President and General Manager of St. Louis CITY SC. "Last year, we witnessed firsthand the profound impact this event has on our local community, and we are thrilled to see CITYPARK continue to play a pivotal role in this significant chapter of collegiate soccer history."

First played in 1971, the Bronze Boot was held in downtown St. Louis at Busch Stadium II from 1972-85 to accommodate large crowds. The rivalry was halted following the 1995 game and re-established in 2018.

The Bronze Boot is responsible for three of the 15 largest crowds in NCAA men's soccer history. An NCAA-record 22,512 fans watched the Billikens and Cougars play at Busch Stadium II on October 30, 1980.

The Billikens' 27-10-3 series advantage includes a 23-6-3 lead in the Bronze Boot portion of the rivalry. SIUE holds the trophy following last year's 2-0 victory at CITYPARK. Three of the five games since the series' resumption in 2018 have gone to overtime. The Billikens' last win in the series came in 2022, a 4-1 triumph in Edwardsville.

The Saint Louis and SIUE women's teams first squared off in 2011. A six-game winning streak, including last season's 5-1 triumph at CITYPARK, has given the Billikens a 7-1-1 series lead.

"We are thrilled to partner with St. Louis CITY SC and CITYPARK to once again showcase NCAA soccer in our community," SLU Director of Athletics Chris May said. "Last year, our student-athletes had an unbelievable experience competing at CITYPARK. We couldn't be happier with the outlook of our Billiken soccer teams. The women's team will be looking for its seventh straight conference championship and is coming off an NCAA Sweet 16 appearance. Our men's team has a great recruiting class and is expected to contend nationally once again. We thank Carolyn Kindle, Lindsey Sharp, Jason Thein at St. Louis CITY SC, and SIUE Director of Athletics Andrew Gavin for helping put together this great event on the St. Louis sports calendar."

Soccer greats Chris Carenza, Al Trost, Dan Flynn, Brian McBride, Tim Twellman and Ed Huneke, as well as current St. Louis CITY SC midfielder John Klein, played in the Bronze Boot game during their collegiate careers.

General admission tickets for the Bronze Boot go on sale Wednesday, June 26, at 10 a.m. Central. One ticket provides access to both matches. Tickets are $20, and $10 per person for groups of 10 or more.
