ST. LOUIS – Following five years that culminated with a historic 2024 season for Saint Louis University women's and men's tennis, Justin Stuckey has resigned as the Billikens' head coach to become the head men's tennis coach at Drake University.
"During his years at Saint Louis University, Justin showed a deep devotion to supporting and guiding the student-athletes in our tennis program," SLU Director of Athletics Chris May said. "His strong commitment to our department's strategic objectives of educating, competing and building community is reflected in the significant success his teams enjoyed on and off the court. We are grateful for Justin's contributions to SLU and wish him all the best in his future endeavors."
"I am forever grateful to Chris May, (Deputy Director of Athletics) Dr. Janet Oberle and (Associate Director of Athletics for Administration) Annie Reis for giving me the opportunity to lead the Billiken tennis programs," Stuckey said. "As a coach, the goal is always to improve the program from where it was when you started. SLU is a special place, and I will always be a fan of Billiken Athletics and the great people who make up the department."
Stuckey compiled a 59-33 women's record and a 53-39 men's mark at the Billiken helm. The women's team was 46-19 over the past three seasons, while the men's team was 30-11 over the past two campaigns. Stuckey coached SLU student-athletes who earned nine men's All-Conference selections and seven women's All-Conference nods, including 2023 Atlantic 10 co-Most Outstanding Performer
Elizabeth Mintusova.
In 2024, the Saint Louis women tied the school record of 12 consecutive wins; those victories were posted in the first 12 matches of the year, shattering the program mark for best start to a season. SLU went on to earn the No. 2 seed for the Atlantic 10 Conference Championship, where the Billikens reached the semifinals for the first time since 2017.
The 2024 Billiken men made the program's first-ever national postseason appearance, earning a spot in the UTR Sports NIT Championship. SLU's .750 winning percentage set a program record, and the Bills collected 15 wins for a second consecutive season, achieving back-to-back 15-win campaigns for just the second time in program annals. SLU advanced to the A-10 Championship semifinals for just the second time in program history.
Stuckey's teams excelled in the classroom as well. Both teams landed on the Intercollegiate Tennis Association All-Academic list for 2023-24; the women's team collected the honor for a fourth consecutive year, while the men's team was recognized for a third straight year.
