TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Competing in their final meet of the regular season, Saint Louis' indoor track and field squads turned in positive results at the John Gartland Invitational on Saturday at Indiana State.
"This was a nice finish to the regular season," SLU head coach Jon Bell said. "We had a handful of PRs and I was happy with the competitiveness of our men and women today. We also rested a few of our key contributors, so I believe we are ready for the A-10 Championships next week."
Among the strong performances was Libby Williams and Tania Amos, who posted PRs in the weight throw of 14.05 meters and 13.12 meters, respectively. Also in the throws, Griffin More registered a PR in the shot put of 13.00 meters.
On the track in the women's 1,000 meters, Riley Franz (2:55.37) and Sonja Morin (2:56.20) posted times that are in the top five in school history and finished first and second. On the men's side, Lukasz Iwanowski's time in the 1,000 meters of 2:28.48 ranks fourth all-time in SLU history.
Dalton Ross qualified for the finals in the 60-meter hurdles with a prelim PR of 8.57. On the women's side, Caigan Leonard had a PR of 9.08 in the 60-meter hurdles.
Journey Amundson won the long jump with a mark of 5.89 meters, which is a new John Gartland Invitational record.
Next up for the Billikens is the Atlantic 10 Conference Indoor Track and Field Championships in Virginia Beach, Va. The meet will be held Friday, Feb. 28 through Saturday, March 1 at the Virginia Beach Sports Center.
