Comeback Falls Just Short in 4-3 Loss to Eastern Illinois

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Saint Louis rallied from a 3-0 deficit but was edged 4-3 by Eastern Illinois Wednesday afternoon at Terre Haute Tennis Center.
 
The Panthers won the doubles point and took a commanding lead after claiming victories at Nos. 6 and 3 singles.
 
The Billikens climbed their way back into the match with three hard-fought singles wins. Andres Castellanos got things started by edging Zach White 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 at No. 2. Riki Koshimizu overcame a first-set loss to oust Tyler Carlin 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4, and Valentin Vasquez also captured a three-set victory, topping Ludolph Wiggett 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 at No. 5.
 
In the decisive No. 1 singles match, Declan Townsend bounced back to win the second set before Pieke Bouman prevailed 6-1, 3-6, 6-2.
 
The Billikens host Omaha Saturday, Feb. 8. First serve at MAC West is slated for 2:45 p.m.
