More School Records Fall for Billikens

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Saint Louis' indoor track and field squads broke three school records Friday at the Missouri Invitational, held at the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse at the University of Missouri.

"This is the fourth week in a row that we've put together solid performances," SLU head coach Jon Bell said. "In saying that, this was the best of those meets. Three school records between the men's and women's programs, a handful of top-five performances, and countless more PRs speaks for the level at which we are competing.

"Next week will be an off week for us, which most coaches might fear would be a break in momentum, however I think it's coming at a perfect time," Bell said. "We can now re-focus our energies in preparation for the A-10 Championships at the end of the month."

Griffin Kimbrel reached 4.61 meters in the pole vault to break teammate James Baker's previous school record 4.55 meters, which was set last season.

Sam Lamaze broke his own school record in the 400 meters, finishing in 48.54. On the same track several weeks ago, Lamaze set the previous school standard of 48.66 en route to claiming A-10 Rookie of the Week honors.

Finally, Sophia Pelligreen broke the school record in the 3,000 meters, crossing the finish in 9:43.05. That edged the previous mark of 9:43.61 set in 2015 by Annika Gomell.

Other impressive Billiken performances included Brock Waugh (4:04.24) and George Blanco (4:08.05) in the mile. Those times rank third and fourth all-time in school history, respectively.

Starr Scott's 800-meter time of 2:13.45 won the race and is tied for second on SLU's all-time list. Emery Mayfield posted a SLU top-five time in the 3,000 meters, crossing the line in 9:49.64.

The Billikens compete in the John Gartland Invitational at Indiana State on Saturday, Feb. 22. That is the final regular-season meet before the A-10 Indoor Championships, which will be held Feb. 28-March 1 at Virginia Beach Sports Center in Virginia Beach, Va.
