FAIRFAX, Va. – Saint Louis freshman Sam Lamaze captured the gold medal in the 400 meters Sunday in the Atlantic 10 Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which was held on the campus of George Mason University.
Lamaze broke his own school record in the 400 meters with a prelim time of 47.01. He won the final in a time of 47.25.
Fellow freshman Manny Vela won the silver medal in the 10,000 meters, running a 10K time of 30:30.67 on Saturday night for runner-up honors. He then scored in the 5,000 meters on Sunday, finishing eighth with a time of 14:31.78
Journey Amundson was the A-10 runner-up in the triple jump, claiming the silver medal with a mark of 12.40 meters. She also scored in the long jump, finishing seventh with a distance of 5.77 meters.
Madeline Rowold earned her first conference medal, winning the bronze in the javelin with a distance of 44.31 meters.
The men's team finished seventh overall with 59 points. The women's squad tied for 11th with 29 points.
