ST. LOUIS – The Saint Louis University men's and women's swimming and diving teams open the 2026-27 season Saturday, Oct. 3, against Missouri-St. Louis, McKendree and Washington University at the STL Showcase. The meet begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Chuck Fruit Aquatic Center in Edwardsville, Ill.

SLU returned 35 student-athletes (18 women, 17 men) from last year's teams. The Billikens feature a strong veteran presence with upperclassmen comprising 66 percent (13 men, 10 women) of the returnees; the group includes juniors Kyle Algrim and Hanna Whitney, the Bills' 2025-26 Most Valuable Performers.

Eight men and six women who scored in individual events at the 2026 Atlantic 10 Conference Championships are back, as are five additional Billikens (four women, one man) who scored in at least one relay at the conference meet.

Algrim placed seventh in three A10 Championships events (400 IM, 500 free, 1650 free) and was a member (along with returning swimmer Tyler Williams) of Saint Louis' 800 free relay team that finished third, bringing home the Billikens' first conference relay medal since 2019. Algrim also set school records in the 400 IM, 1650 free and 1000 free.

Drayton Beber and Evan Crim are back after swimming on the school-record-setting 400 medley relay squad. Ben Mears, who finished eighth in the A10 in 3-meter diving, also returns.

Whitney set a school record while finishing sixth in the 100 breast at the A10 meet. Also turning in top-8 performances in A10 competition were Faith McAdam (seventh, 200 fly) and Emmy Barrett (eighth, 200 back). Meghan Eng, Sarah Dingus and Izabel Schmidt return from the school-record-setting 200 medley relay quartet.

Saint Louis returns competitors who accounted for 37 individual performances (23 men, 14 women) that made the program's all-time top-10 lists.

"Our team is stronger than it was last year, and even during this past month of training, it is clear that we are more efficient and cleaner in the water and on the boards than last year," head coach Ryan McCoy said. "This season will allow us to do two things really well – compete against top talent across all three divisions of our sport and accurately measure ourselves as the season progresses to identify the margins in which we can improve."

In addition to the large returning group, the 2026-27 Billiken roster includes 16 newcomers – nine men (all freshmen) and seven women (five freshmen, two transfers).

"I am most looking forward to seeing how our new faces can bring their talents together to help this team improve even more off the success of last season," McCoy said. "I am confident the Billikens will have another season to remember."

Following Saturday's season opener, the Billikens will compete in five more meets in the St. Louis area. SLU hosts dual meets vs. Rockhurst and Southern Indiana at Simon Recreation Center on Oct. 17 and Jan. 16, respectively; travels to O'Fallon, Ill., for the McKendree Tri-Meet on Oct. 31; and faces Washington University (Dec. 4) and Missouri-St. Louis (Jan. 22) in dual meets hosted by those schools.

Saint Louis will return to the House of Champions Invitational in Indianapolis Nov. 19-21. The A-10 Championships will be held Feb. 17-20 in Hampton, Va.
