Billikens Rally Past La Salle, 3-2

PHILADELPHIA – Saint Louis scored twice in the final eight minutes to rally for a 3-2 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over La Salle Saturday night at McCarthy Stadium.

The Billikens (5-4-3, 2-1-1 A10) trailed 2-1 before Tanner Anderson and JC Cortez scored in quick succession to secure the come-from-behind win.

Saint Louis took a 1-0 lead in the 17th minute when Luke Adams scored his third goal of the season off an assist from Alander Soares. The Billikens carried the advantage into halftime after limiting the Explorers to two first-half shots.

La Salle responded in the second half, scoring twice from the penalty spot to take a 2-1 lead. Alberto "Toto" Esquivel Meza converted in the 76th minute before Gabe Faust added another penalty-kick goal in the 79th minute.

The Billikens answered in the 83rd minute. Andrew Heckenlaible set up Anderson, who finished for his fourth goal of the season to even the score at 2-2.

Just under two minutes later, Cortez delivered the decisive strike, scoring his first goal of the season in the 85th minute to put Saint Louis back in front, 3-2.

Goalkeeper Lucas McPartlin made three saves as the Billikens held on for the victory.

SLU continues A10 play next Saturday night, hosting VCU at Robert R. Hermann Stadium in a 7 p.m. kickoff.
